2017 Fall Fitness Class Schedule
NOTE: Holly MacKenzie's PiYo class on Wednesday, Oct. 4 has been cancelled.
Classes in the Yoga/Dance Room, 2nd floor of the Alfond Athletic Center. Bring a towel and a water bottle to class. Classes are free to all members of the Colby Community. All classes are one hour and are in the Yoga/Dance Room unless noted.
Mon., Thu., 12:00 p.m. Fitness Challenge * Instructor: Marc Cote
*Meets at the track in the field house. This class is designed for all people interested in getting some exercise in a short period of time. We do a circuit style program with a set number of stations, working for a set number of seconds, and resting for a set number of seconds. The exercises and number of stations change from class to class and they are all scalable to suit your fitness level.
Mon., 12:00 p.m. Gentle Yoga Instructor: Laura Meader
This class will focus on easy yoga postures done mostly on the floor with props such as blocks, bolsters, and straps. We'll work on gentle stretching, breathing, and relaxation. Ideal for beginners, people recovering from injuries, or more advanced yoginis. Stretches and postures will be repeated so students can refine the poses and measure progress. Students should be relatively comfortable being on the floor on their backs, bellies, and sitting.
Mon., Thu., 5:30 p.m. Power Yoga Instructor: Raya Kouletsis
Power Yoga offers yoga based on Core Power sequencing techniques for a flow of unifying breath to movement. Class pace will vary for beginners through advanced levels. Bringing a towel and water bottle is suggested.
Tue. 12:00 p.m. Hatha Yoga Instructor: Doug Hall
Colby graduate Doug Hall, the diving coach for the Mules, will lead the Hatha Yoga class.
Tue. 5:30 p.m. Firm and Burn Instructor: Robin Harrington
Circuit Challenge workout, implementing weights and cardio in a great one-hour workout.
Wed., 12:00 p.m. PiYo LIVE Instructor: Holly MacKenzie
PiYo LIVE combines the muscle-sculpting, core-firming benefits of Pilates with the strength and flexibility advantages of yoga. We crank up the speed to deliver a true fat-burning, low impact workout that leaves your body looking long, lean and incredibly defined. The perfect class for those who love the sweat and burn of circuit training, but know they need the flexibility and mobility of yoga.

Pound is a new class with Christine Bishop. The new Wednesday date starts Sept. 13.
Wed. 6:30 p.m. Zumba Instructor: Christine Bishop
Participants will work work hard with instructor Christine Bishop in the lone Zumba class of the week.
Thu. 12:00 p.m. Hatha Yoga Instructor: Laura Meader
Participants will work on yoga postures (asanas) as well as breathing techniques to improve strength, balance, and posture. Core strengthening and stretching are integral parts of yoga as are learning how to invigorate and how to relax. – This class is designed for those who have had at least some yoga experience and want to deepen their practice. Yoga is a lifelong learning practice that increases mental focus and physical flexibility.
Thu., 6:30 p.m. Tabata Instructor: Robin Harrington
Tabata training is a very intense form of Interval Training. Created by Izumi Tabata, the Tabata Protocol is simply the best supra-aerobic cardio workout every discovered. A popular regimen based on a 1996 study uses 20 seconds of ultra-intense exercise followed by 10 seconds of rest, repeated continuously for 4 minutes (8 cycles). A session consists of a warm up period of exercise, followed by six to 10 repetitions of high intensity exercise, separated by medium intensity exercise, and ending with a period of cool down exercise.
Fri. 12:00 p.m. Vinyasa Yoga (STARTS Sept. 15) Instructor: Kathleen Haberstock
Vinyasa Flow class: Move with precision, focus, and joy in this alignment-based class that will build strength, balance, and flexibility. Focus on linking the breath to the movement for a moving meditation that will invigorate and release tension. All levels are welcome!
