Alpine skier Derwin competes at FIS Junior World Championships

DAVOS, Switzerland -- Colby College's Colbey Derwin placed 48th overall and first among skiers representing New Zealand in the giant slalom at the FIS Alpine Men's Junior World Ski Championships on Tuesday.

Derwin, a first-year at Colby, had a two-run total time of 1 minute, 48.45 seconds.

Derwin has already been successful in his brief time at Colby. He won a FIS race at Sugarloaf before the Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association (EISA) season started. Derwin also has two top-20 finishes in slalom racing, with a 12th at the Saint Michael's Carnival and a 19th at the Colby Carnival.
