First-years lead alpine ski teams in opening giant slalom

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. -- Colby College first-years Rylee McCormack had the top  finish for the women and Chauncey Morgan had the best result for the men in giant slalom racing at Whiteface Mountain on Saturday.
 
McCormack had runs of 1:12.42 and 1:12.15 for a two-run total time of 2:24.57 to place 21st in her first Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association giant slalom race.
 
Lily Hogan placed 24th (2:24.82, 1:12.74, 1:12.08) and Sandy Schoepke was 26th in 2:25.32 (1:12.37, 1:12.95). The women helped Colby place sixth overall, just one point out of fifth place.
 
Morgan (pictured) finished in 28th place for the men with runs of 1:07.67 and 1:08.54 for a total time of 2:16.21. Matt Wilson was 31st for the Mules in 2:16.78 (1:08.25,  1:08.53), while Colbey Derwin had a 2:17.40 (1:07.97, 1:09.43) to take 32nd in 2:17.40. The Mules finished in eighth place.
