Baseball has solid pitching in non-conference loss

BRUNSWICK, Maine – Four Colby College pitchers allowed just two earned runs over eight innings, but Bowdoin held on for a 3-2 win in a non-conference baseball game Saturday.

The contest was added to the schedule this past week.

Colby (7-23 overall) will play a doubleheader at Plymouth State on Sunday at noon. The Mules close out the season with two games at home against Plymouth State on Monday at 5 p.m.

By the numbers

* Frank Driscoll started and pitched five innings while striking out nine batters. Cameron Garfield, Will Cohen, and William Wessman each worked one inning and combined to allow just two hits.

* Will Phillips (pictured) had two of Colby's four hits, walked, and stole a pair of bases. Tyler Mulberry had one hit, scored, and stole a base. Andrew Russell had the other Mule hit and drove in a run.

Game highlights

* Colby scored both of its runs in the top of the second inning. Phillips singled and advanced to second on an error to start the inning. After a single by Mulberry pushed Phillips to third, the Mules scored first when Mulberry stole second and Phillips scored. With two outs, Russell singled to bring in Mulberry.

* The Polar Bears scored all three of their runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
