Iuliano has four hits, scores four runs in series with Bates

WATERVILLE, Maine – Colby hosted Bates College for the first game of a three game series with Bates College. The other two games were played at Bates. Saturday's game saw spitting rain and cold temperatures, but Sunday warmed up nicely for the double header.

Game one started off evenly, with Bates taking the early lead in the second off of a home run. The Mules quickly came back when Keenan Iuliano scored on a Jackson Ward groundout, before again falling in a deficit when Bates scored in the top of the 3rd. Iuliano scored his second run of the game on a Tyler McGee single to again tie the score in the top of the fourth, but the rest of the game was almost all Bobcats. Bates scored 14 more runs, nine in the eight inning, before Iuliano scored his third run of the game for the Mules when Matt Mitchell walked with the bases loaded, and the Mules lost 16-3. Frank Driscoll pitched five innings for Colby, giving up three runs and striking out seven for a quality outing. Iuliano led the Mules offense with three hits to complement his three runs, and Mitchell added two hits, a walk, and an RBI.

Game two saw only one inning of scoring between the two teams. Both starting pitchers held the offenses scoreless through three innings before Bates tagged Emery Dinsmore for three runs in the bottom of the fourth. The Mules struggled to generate offensive momentum and only recorded four hits in the game. Will Philips, Ryan Hecht, and Chris Romano all singled while Matt Mitchell added a double, but the hits did not account for any runs, and the Mules dropped game two of the series 3-0.

The Bobcats jumped out to another early lead in game three, striking for one run in the top of the first. Bates continued to press, scoring twice in the second and then adding three runs in the third inning, all off of Colby starter Patrick Carbone. Taimu Ito singled to drive in Keenan Iuliano and Chris Romano in the top of the fourth inning, but the Bates relief pitchers held Colby to just one more hit for the rest of the game. The Bobcats added an insurance run off of Will Cohen in the bottom of the fifth inning to secure a 7-2 win. William Wessman closed out the game on the mound for the Mules.

Colby finishes its season with a double header at home against Tufts on May 4th, starting at 2:00 PM.
