Baseball teams ends fine spring break trip with tough loss

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. -- The Colby College baseball team ended a fine spring break trip to Florida with a tough 14-13 setback to Williams College on Saturday.

The Mules led 13-9 heading into the bottom of the ninth inning, but the Ephs rallied for five runs. The final blow was a walk-off home run.

Colby finished the trip at 6-4 overall, losing just one game that was not close. The Mules will entertain St. Joseph's College in the home opener Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Colby showed the ability to score runs and get timely hits during the trip. Dylan Nastri, a first-year, had a huge trip and finished with four hits and a walk Saturday.

Chris Romano added three hits, a pair of runs, and a walk for the Mules. Matt Mitchell and Ryan Hecht both had three hits and were hit by a pitch. Mitchell also scored two runs.

Jackson Ward homered, walked, and scored two runs for Colby. Tommy McGee added two hits, while Taimu Ito had a hit and a run scored.

The contest was a strange one. Neither team managed a run and combined for just one hit in the opening three innings. Colby and Williams scored all 27 runs in the final six.
