2017 football schedule released

WATERVILLE, Maine -- The Colby College football team begins the first year of round-robin play in the New England Small College Athletic Conference with five road games and four home games for the 2017 season.

The Mules open the season Saturday, Sept. 16, at 1 p.m. at defending league champion Trinity College. The Mules were not scheduled to play the Bantams in 2017, but that changed when the NESCAC presidents approved the schedule moving from eight to nine games.

The Mules play a brutal schedule to open the season, with three of the opening four games on the road against teams with a combined 20-4 record last year.

Colby will open at home on Saturday, Sept. 23, at 1 p.m. against Williams College (0-8 in 2017).

After tough road games at Middlebury College and Wesleyan University, the Mules return home Saturday, Oct. 14, to host Amherst College at 1 p.m.

Colby has the long road trip to Hamilton College on Saturday, Oct. 21, for a noon start. The Mules, though, will play two of the final three games at Harold Alfond Stadium.

A Family Homecoming Weekend crowd will watch Colby entertain Bates College in the first Colby-Bates-Bowdoin (CBB) game on Saturday, Oct. 28, at 1 p.m. The Mules have their final home game against Tufts University on Saturday, Nov. 4, at 1 p.m.

The Mules close out the season with their other CBB game, a 12:30 p.m. start at Bowdoin College on Saturday, Nov. 11. Colby, 3-5 last season, took a 32-16 win over the Polar Bears in the 2016 season.

Colby will play a reverse schedule in 2018, opening the season at home against Trinity College on Saturday, Sept. 15.
