WATERVILLE, Maine -- Christian Sparacio threw for one touchdown and ran for another for the Colby College football team, but Middlebury College quarterback Jared Lebowitz was tough to handle in the Mules' 35-14 loss Saturday in their home opener.
Middlebury (2-0) opened the second half with another scoring drive, moving 77 yards on 11 plays, while taking 4:14 off the clock. Tight end Frank Cosolito had a 20-yard touchdown from Lebowitz.
One possession later, Middlebury scored on another lengthy drive, going 80 yards on nine plays. Lebowitz
connected with Banky for 36 yards on the score.
Middlebury out-gained Colby 429-245 in total offense, but the Mules did have 16 first downs.
Diego Meritus finished with 62 yards on 11 carries for the Panthers.
Jabari Hurdle-Price led the Mule ground game with 43 yards on 15 carries. Dan Roache ran well with four rushes for 21 yards.
Ferrell led the Colby receivers with three receptions for 65 yards.
Sam Friedman paced the Mule defense with nine stops and a sack, while Don Vivian finished with eight tackles. Sebastien Philemon added seven tackles, while Ian Dickey had six tackles and an interception.
Colby will play host to Wesleyan University next Saturday at 1 p.m. as part of Family Homecoming Weekend.
