WATERVILLE, Maine -- Colby College quarterback Gabe Harrington and running back Jabari Hurdle-Price refused to let injury issues get in the way of their final collegiate football game in a 32-16 win over rival Bowdoin College on Saturday at Harold Alfond Stadium.
Colby finished the season at 3-5 overall, while Bowdoin ended up 0-8. The teams were meeting for the 128th time, the third-longest series in NCAA Division III football.
The Mules scored 19 straight points in the fourth quarter to turn a 13-10 nail-biter into a comfortable 32-10 margin. Colby was driving in the Polar Bears' territory as the fourth quarter started. The Mules went 10 plays and 56 yards before settling for a 21-yard field goal with 14:11 to play.
Hurdle-Price took over the game on Colby's next two touchdowns. He immediately rambled 34 yards to the Bowdoin 4-yard line on the first play of the drive. Three plays later, he dove in from 1-yard out with 6:48 to play. The Mules did miss the extra point and led 22-10.
Colby defensive back Don Vivian had his best collegiate game with a game-high 14 tackles (9 solo), 1.5 tackles for loss, a blocked kick, and an interception. After Hurdle-Price's second touchdown, Vivian had his pick at the Bowdoin 41-yard line in front of the Colby bench. He raced down the right sideline for a 29-yard gain to the Polar Bear 12-yard line.
The Polar Bears only needed 1:59 to drive 69 yards on nine plays. Bowdoin quarterback Tim Drakeley tossed a 30-yard touchdown to Liam Ford on the goal line on the right sideline area with 31 seconds left. Ford had a terrific day with 11 catches for 104 yards.
Harrington's best drive was in the second quarter. He had a 15-yard completion to Alex Kramer and a 17-yard strike to Sebastian Ferrell. On the sixth play of the drive, Harrington went up the middle on his 29-yard score.
The Polar Bears had success running the ball behind Nate Richam (112 yards, 5.3 per rush) and Markisz (91 yards, 5.7 per rush).
The Polar Bears had an edge in total offense (342-331), first downs (18-12) and time of possession (32:57-27:03).
