WATERVILLE, Maine -- Sean Conerly, linebackers coach and special teams coordinator the past three years for the Colby College football team, has been named the new defensive coordinator for the Mules.
Tom Dexter, who enters his 30th season on the Colby football coaching staff, moves to wide receivers coach. The coaches start their new positions July 1.
"We are very excited to announce these adjustments to our coaching staff for the 2018 season," said Colby head coach Jack Cosgrove, who will coach his first season with the Mules this fall. "This is in order to maximize the coaching skills of our staff. Going forward we want to feature the strengths of our personnel -- both players and coaches -- to provide our football program a greater opportunity for success."
Conerly, who will relinquish his special teams coordinator position, coached at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) and Union College before coming to Colby. A 2010 graduate of Union, Conerly was a defensive line coach with RPI and at his alma mater.
Dexter, the Gridiron Club of Boston’s Division II/III Assistant Coach of the Year in 2009, will move from defense to offense. He had coached the defensive backs for the Mules and had seven All-New England Small College Athletic Conference players in the past 10 years.
Colby opens the season at home against Trinity College on Saturday, Sept. 15.
