WATERVILLE, Maine -- After scoring four goals in a win against Wesleyan University on Saturday, the Colby College field hockey team made it 11 in two games with a 7-2 non-conference win over Endicott College on Sunday at Bill Alfond Field.
The Mules improved to 5-6 overall heading into a road game at Amherst College on Saturday at 11 a..m. Endicott dropped to 7-6 overall.
Colby had seven players score goals, including McKayla Blanch (pictured) with a score and two assists. The Mules had a 29-19 shot advantage and a 10-5 margin in penalty corners.
Hannah Hearn scored just 58 seconds into the game off a penalty corner. Hearn took the corner and passed it out to Kallie Hutchinson on top. Hutchinson immediately passed the ball back to Hearn for a one-timer.
The Gulls were right in the game for the next 22 minutes until the Mules scored three goals in a span of 6:02 to take a 4-0 halftime margin.
Meredith Keenan scored her fourth of the season when she got to a rebound and found the back of the cage at 24:14. Danielle Smith put her first goal of the year in at 27:52 when Blanch found her on the right side of the goal. Blanch's fifth goal of the season with 4:46 remaining to halftime put the Mules up 4-0.
Blanch picked up her seventh assist of the season at 41:48 of the contest on Merrill Read's sixth goal of the year. Kallie Hutchinson scored three minutes later when she took a penalty corner pass from Anna Rudinski and rifled in a shot.
Despite trailing 6-0, Endicott kept pushing forward and got on the scoreboard just 1:06 after Hutchinson's goal. Sophia Cogliano tallied for the sixth time this year when she scored off a centering pass from Madi Wood.
The Gulls' Melanie Kaleta won a battle for the ball in a scramble in front and scored her third of the year with 13:47 to play.
Rudinski scored her second goal of the season at 62:25 for the final score.
Riley Whitmyer had eight saves, including six in the second half. Kat Restrepo had one defensive save for Colby. Cheka Ventura finished with 11 saves for Endicott.
