Cassidy named to All-NESCAC field hockey team

WATERVILLE, Maine -- Colby College sophomore Georgia Cassidy (Darien, Conn), who tied the team's single-season goal scoring record, was named to the New England Small College Athletic Conference Field Hockey All-Conference Second Team on Wednesday.

Cassidy, a transfer from the University of North Carolina, made an immediate impact in her first year with the Mules. Her scoring ability helped the Mules finish 9-6 overall after the team was 6-9 in 2016.

Cassidy was fifth in the NESCAC in total goals (15) and is tied with three-time All-American Wendy Bonner for Colby's single-season goal scoring record. Cassidy also had three assists and ranked in a tie for sixth in the league in points (33). Among the top eight scorers in the league, Cassidy was first in shot percentage (.263) and added three game-winning goals.

Cassidy came up big in a number of Colby wins this year. She scored in a 3-2 win over Trinity College, which made the NESCAC final and the NCAA tourney. Cassidy also had both goals in a 2-1 win at Wesleyan University and had an assist in Colby's huge 1-0 win over then sixth-ranked Amherst College.
