Men's basketball starts back up against UMF on Saturday

WATERVILLE, Maine -- After ending the fall semester with a big road win at Bates College, the Colby College men's basketball team plays for the first time time in three weeks with a New Year's Eve game at University of Maine at Farmington on Saturday at 2 p.m.

The Mules, with eight first-year players on the roster, are 5-4 overall after a thrilling 55-54 victory at Bates. Colby will entertain Bates next Friday at 7 p.m. in the first New England Small College Athletic Conference game of the season. The Mules host Tufts University the following day at 3 p.m.

Patrick Stewart, who had the game-winning 3-point play against Bates, leads the Mules in scoring (16.2), rebounding (6.4), made 3-point shots (18), and blocked shots (10). 
 

Maximilian Steiner is second in scoring (9.9), first in steals (11 total), tied for first in assists (2.4), and second in rebounding (5.2). He is also shooting a solid 39 percent (16-for-41) from 3-point range.

Sean Gilmore (9.1 ppg), Joe Connelly (7.7 ppg), Ronan Schwarz (7.3 ppg), Sam Jefferson (5.3 ppg), and Steven Daley (pictured, 5.1 ppg) are other leading scorers. Gilmore leads the Mules in 3-point shooting (63.6 percent, 7-for-11), Connelly is tied for first in assists (2.4), and Daley leads in free throw percentage (88.9, 8-for-9). The Mule are shooting 70.1 percent from the foul line as a team.
 

Maine-Farmington is 2-6 overall and has four players scoring in double figures. The Beavers have losses to Maine rivals University of Southern Maine (93-65), Bowdoin College (85-63), University of New England (69-67), and Husson University (92-81).

Amir Moss leads the Beavers in scoring (13.1), while Issac Witham averages 12.4 points and leads the team in assists (2.4). Bill Ruby is third in scoring (11.2) and first in rebounding (6.7). Riley Robinson (10.4) is the other scorer in double figures for UMF.
