No. 8 Jumbos stop men's basketball

WATERVILLE, Maine -- Sean Gilmore finished with a team-high 12 points for the Colby College men's basketball team in an 84-70 setback to eighth-ranked Tufts University on Saturday at Wadsworth Gymnasium.

The Jumbos, who had all five starters in double figures, improved to 11-2 overall and 2-0 in the conference. Colby dropped to 6-6 overall and 0-2 in the league.
 

Everett Dayton was 5-for-8 from the field for a game-high 15 points and dished five assists for the Jumbos. Tarik Smith had a game-high seven assists and scored 11 points, Ben Engvall was 5-for-5 from the field for 11 points, Vincent Pace also had 11 points and blocked two shots, and Tom Palleschi had 10 points, nine rebounds, and two blocks.

Gilmore finished with his 12 points on 5-for-9 shooting. Ethan Schlager hit 3-of-6 from 3-point range on the way to 11 points, Maximilian Steiner pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds, and Ronan Schwarz added six assists and six points. Patrick Stewart scored eight points, had six rebounds, and four assists. Dean Weiner (pictured) was 4-for-4 from the field for nine points.
 

The Jumbos shot 54.8 percent (17-for-31) from the field in the first half and held the Mules to 28.2 percent (11-for-39) shooting to take a 47-26 margin at halftime. Smith had all 11 of his points in the opening half.

The Jumbos took a 74-45 lead with 9:07 to play on Ethan Feldman's jumper. With both benches seeing playing time, the Mules cut the margin to 13 points (79-66) on a 3-point shot by Sam Jefferson with 2:06 to play.
