Men's hockey scores twice in third to earn big victory at Bowdoin, 2-1

BRUNSWICK, Maine -- Round one went to the Colby College men's hockey team and first-year goalie Andrew Tucci (pictured) in a thrilling 2-1 win over rival Bowdoin College on Friday night at Sid Watson Arena.

The Mules move to 3-0 in the NESCAC and 4-1 overall. The two teams will play again Saturday at 7 p.m. at Colby's Alfond Rink.

Tucci made 21 of his 41 saves in a scoreless opening period. He earned the Pete Schuh Award, presented to the MVP of the Bowdoin/Colby game held in Brunswick.

Peter Cronin was a tough luck loser with a solid night at 34 saves, including 27 in the first two periods.

Despite the final score, this was hardly a defensive struggle. Both teams had quality opportunities in all periods.

Trailing 1-0 after two periods and continuing a power play, first-year Kienan Scott tallied just 33 seconds into the third period. He came in on the right side, looked to center the puck, and had the puck go off a Bowdoin skater and into the net.

Colby's Cam MacDonald scored just 1:58 later for the eventual game-winning goal. Kevin Doherty pushed a pass to MacDonald on the right point. MacDonald fired a shot through traffic in front of the net and had the puck kick up and over the shoulder of Cronin.

Bowdoin had led 1-0 after two periods after a goal with just 17 seconds left in the second period. Cody Todesco scored his sixth of the year when a Colby defender gave up the puck near mid-ice.
