WATERVILLE, Maine – A cold and windy night could not slow down the Colby men's lacrosse team, who used a fast start and consistent pressure to beat visiting Maine Maritime Academy, 20-3.
Jung Shin catalyzed the Mules offense by owning the face offs, helping Colby win 22 of 25 on the evening. The consistent possession allowed the Mules to put early offensive pressure on the Mariners and CJ Hassan scored just 45 seconds into the game off of a feed from Riley Bergstrom. Colby used sharp passing and disciplined spacing to score seven more times in the first quarter, with Colton Michel, Carter Vickers, Jack Rickards, Max Cushman, and Riley Bergstrom adding goals.
The two teams played more evenly in the third quarter. Michael Minard and Beck French netted goals for Colby, but Maine Maritime responded when Jayden Wilson and Zeke Tocci buried two goals for the Mariners to bring the score to 13-3. The remainder of the game was all Mules, however. Bill Jacobs and Rickards added third quarter goals before Jason Baisley, Bill Jacobs, French and Minard scored in the fourth to secure a 20-3 win for Colby.
The victory moves the Mules to 7-5 on the season. The remainder of their games are on the road, the next one at Trinity on Saturday, April 20th at 7:00 PM (EST).
