Men's swimming and diving beats Middlebury

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. -- Colby College senior Carter Garfield and first-year John Connors both won three individual events for the Mules in a 167-131 win over Middlebury College in men's swimming and diving Saturday.
 
The Mules defeated the Panthers for the second straight year
 
Garfield (pictured) won the 50-yard breaststroke (27.37), 100 breaststroke (59.87), and the 100 individual medley (54.56). Connors continued to swim well in his first season, taking the 50 freestyle (22.18), 100 freestyle (48.51), and 200 freestyle (1:45.28).
 
Ryan Bedell and Xander Geiersbach helped the Mules with two individual wins. Bedell took the 500 freestyle (4:48.05) and 1,000 freestyle (10:01.32). Geiersbach was strong in the backstroke with victories in the 50 (24.97) and 100 (53.04). Bedell also had a second in the 200 freestyle (1:47.68).
 
Matt Jones had the other win for the Mules with a 24.21 in the 50 butterfly. He also placed second in the 100 fly (53.57).
 
Travers Losert had good competition in diving and took two second-place finishes. He had 234.30 points on the 1-meter board and 217.85 points in 3-meter diving.
