(SATURDAY'S RELEASE)

Colby College's Vlad Murad has the chance to have New England men's tennis bragging rights after winning two more matches Saturday at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) New England Region Championships.

"Vlad has had an unbelievable tournament so far," Colby head coach Jason Cohen said. "He has been playing great all fall, so this is certainly not a surprise."

Murad beat two players from Williams College in the third round and in the quarterfinals. He took a 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 win against Sachin Raghavan in the third round. Murad then fought back for a 1-6, 6-4, 6-2 victory against Brian Grodecki in the quarterfinal match.
"His last match against Grodecki was impressive because he played poorly in the first set, took some time to regroup, and came back out and picked up his level for the last two sets," Cohen said. "Grodecki is a very talented player, but Vlad kept playing his unrelenting style and dictated play."

Murad also teamed with doubles partner Carl Reid for an 8-3 win against a team from Gordon College in the third round. However, the second-seeded duo from Colby fell 8-5 in the quarterfinals to a team from Middlebury College.

Murad will be able to concentrate just on singles play Sunday.

"While he has had some long matches, so did his Sunday opponent," Cohen said. "I would not bet against Vlad if comes down to fitness or determination."
