Doubles teams, Murad both win for men's tennis

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Colby College's Vlad Murad moved into the third round of singles play and doubles action with partner Carl Reid at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Men's Championships on Friday at Williams College.

Murad took a 6-3, 6-1 win over Clark University's Lenny Siegel in the first round. He also had a surprisingly easy second round match, winning 6-0, 6-2 over Bowdoin College's Luke Carstens. Murad will play Sachin Raghavan of Williams in the third round.
Reid and Murad earned a bye in the opening round thanks to their second seed in the tourney. The Colby duo won 8-5 against Colby-Sawyer College's Gustav Jigrup and Alex Wright. Reid and Murad will play a team from Gordon College in the third round.
Colby first-years Zale Shah (pictured) and Scott Altmeyer opened doubles play with an 8-1 win against Duane Davis and Dylan Davis of Bates College. The Colby pair lost 8-4 to the third-seeded team of Kyle Wolfe and Jerry Jiang of Bowdoin in the second round.
Reid, the fourth seed in singles play, was upset 6-3, 6-1 by Bowdoin's Grant Urken in the opening round.
