Altmeyer gives battle to third-ranked player in tough loss

WATERVILLE, Maine -- Colby College's Scott Altmeyer won 6-0 in the first set and took the third-ranked player in the country to a super tie-breaker during the Mules' 9-0 loss to fourth-ranked Williams College on Sunday in NESCAC men's tennis.

Altmeyer (pictured) fell 0-6, 6-4, 10-8 to Brian Grodecki in the first singles position. Grodecki is ranked first in the Northeast Region.
 
The Mules (8-4 overall, 3-3 NESCAC) also had Shaw Speer nearly win the first set in a tough 7-6 loss at fourth singles. 
 
Williams improved to 12-3 overall and 5-1 in the league.
 
Colby is right back in action Monday at 4 p.m. in another NESCAC home match with 24th-ranked Bates College.
