Altmeyer named ITA's Northeast Region Player to Watch

WATERVILLE, Maine -- Colby College sophomore Scott Altmeyer (Princeton, N.J.), who stepped in this year at first singles and doubles, was named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northeast Region Player to Watch.

Altmeyer, with All-Americans Carl Reid and Vlad Murad graduating last year, moved into the number one singles position and finished 8-6 in dual matches. He also teamed up with first-year Sumukh Pathi to go 9-4 at first doubles.

The 8-6 singles record was impressive and was capped by a victory over then 11th-ranked Arthur Fagundes of University Texas at Tyler during Colby's spring break Texas trip. Altmeyer also was impressive in a few tough losses to some of the top players in the country. Altmeyer took a 6-0 opening set win over then third-ranked Brian Grodecki of Williams before eventually falling 10-8 in a super tie-breaker. Against then 14th-ranked Steven Chen of Wesleyan, Altmeyer fought back for a 7-6 (5) win in the second set before dropping a 10-5 super tie-breaker.

Altmeyer is 18-12 in singles dual matches in his first two years and has 16 doubles victories.
