Men's tennis has three players on ITA Scholar-Athlete Team

WATERVILLE, Maine -- Colby College men's tennis players Luis Gonzalez (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), Sam Hoenig (Lincoln, Mass.), and Peter Messenger (Montclair, N.J.) were named to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association 2018 Scholar-Athlete Team on Tuesday.

Colby men's tennis earned the ITA All-Academic Team award for having a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20.
 
Gonzalez, Hoenig, and Messenger all had at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average for the 2017-18 season to earn scholar-athlete honors.
 
Gonzalez, a sophomore this past season, was 6-5 in singles while playing mainly the fifth and sixth positions. He also won six doubles matches with partner Jeremy Mendoza.
 
Hoenig, who graduated in May, is a three-time New England Small College Athletic Conference Spring All-Academic Team selection. He also earned a NESCAC All-Sportsmanship Team honor.
 
Messenger, a first-year player during this past season, won his lone singles dual match at the sixth position and also won his only doubles match.
