Sommers, Gagnon lead men at BU

BOSTON, Mass. -- Brian Sommers placed 17th in the 200-meter dash and was 28th in the 400 meters for the Colby College men's indoor track and field team at Boston University's Valentine Invitational on Saturday.

Sommers was third among Division III sprinters with a time of 21.98 in the 200. He had a clocking of 48.87 in the 400 meters. Athletes from all three NCAA divisions, club teams, and unattached competed.

Griffin Gagnon is now second among 3,000 meter runners after a time of 8:32.41 in taking 60th place. Jeff Hale has the school record in 8:26.48.

James Gibson took 16th in the long jump (21-8) and Landon Summers placed 33rd in the 60 hurdles (8.55). Andy Fullerton was 40th in the long jump (18-10.75).

Pedro Caballero took 60th in the 400 meters, James O'Donnell was 138th in 51.86, and Marcques Houston placed 153rd in 52.29.

David Chelimo was 67th out of 307 finishers in the mile with a time of 4:15.70, while Noel Feeney took 124th in 4:21.53.

Besides Sommer's fine finish in the 200, Colby had seven other sprinters in the event. Zach O'Connor (103rd, 22.74), Houston (113th, 22.85), James O'Donnell (116th, 22.87), Nick Boutin (130th, 23.00), Summers (144th, 23.11), Roy Donnelly (156th, 23.30), and Leo McGuiness (160th, 23.34).

Keith Barnatchez took 112th in the 800 meters (1:57.40) and Liam McDonough placed 138th in 1:58.72.
