Chelimo second in 5,000 meters

BOSTON, Mass. -- David Chelimo finished in second place and James Gibson had a seventh for the Colby College men's indoor track and field team at the Open New England Championships at the Reggie Lewis Center on Friday.

Gibson continued to have a fine first season with the Mules by leaping 21-11.75 for seventh place in the long jump. He will compete in the triple jump Saturday.

Brian Sommers finished second in qualifying for the 400 dash with a time of 48.93. He will be one of eight sprinters in Saturday's final.

The Mules are in ninth place with 10 points after the first day of competition.
