Gibson, Houston win events for men's track and field at Bates meet

LEWISTON, Maine -- James Gibson won the triple jump and Marcques Houston beat a field of 28 sprinters in the 200-meter dash for the Colby College men's indoor track and field team at the Bates College Invitational on Saturday.

Gibson had a leap of 43-feet, 3.25 inches to hold off teammate Kyle McGadney (40-9.75). Gibson also took second place in the long jump (20-9).
 
Houston easily won the 200 dash in 22.98 in the largest field of any of the men's events. Ryan Corley of Bates took second place in 23.52.
 
Sage Bailin competed in the heptathlon for the first time ever and finished second with 4,020 points. He won the 60 hurdles and took seconds in the 1,000 meters (2:55.15), 60 dash (7.52), and the high jump (5-10.5)
 
The Mules also received seconds from Arthur Cassidy in the 1,000 meters (2:42.70), Ty Farris with a 7.20 in the 60 meters, and Liam McDonough in the mile (4:41.32). Farris had the fastest time in the preliminary races at 7.17.
 
Colby finished second out of five teams in the meet with 98 points.
