Men's cross country sixth at powerhouse Williams meet

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- The 16th-ranked Colby College men's cross country team placed sixth overall out of 23 teams in a strong Williams College Purple Valley Classic at Mount Greylock High School on Saturday.


Griffin Gagnon (pictured) finished in 11th place with a time of 25 minutes, 50.9 seconds over the 8-kilometer course. The Mules, competing without All-NESCAC runner Silas Eastman, had Nathan Madeira finish in 20th place with a 26:02.8. 
The Mules had a team score of 144 to finish in back of champion Geneseo (48), Williams (64), MIT (89), Amherst (107), and Rensselaer (112). All of the other teams in the meet finished with a score of more than 200. Geneseo, Williams, MIT, and Amherst are among the top 10 teams in the country.
Colby's Benard Kibet took 29th place in 26:17.7, while David Chelimo was 31st with a 26:23.1. Chelimo, who missed all of last year due to injury, was running for the first time this season. Tom O'Shea was 53rd out of 256 finishers in 26:57.5. Noel Feeney placed 63rd in 27:06.5 and Eli Decker was 65th with a 27:06.8.
Geneseo's Issac Garcia-Cassani won the race in 25:24.9.
