Cross country teams open season with races against Bates

WATERVILLE, Maine --- The Colby College men's and women's cross country teams open the season in the annual Class Wave Races against Bates College on Saturday.

The races will begin at 9:30 a.m. on top of Runnals by the observatory. The junior/senior women start at 9:30 a.m. and are followed by the junior/senior men at 10 a.m. The first-year/sophomore women race at 10:30 a.m. and the first-year/sophomore men finish the morning with an 11 a.m. start.
 
The women's course is 3,920 meters, while the men will run a 5-kilometer race. The course is a mix of hard pack, chipped trail, and some field.
 
Hannah Springhorn, Sopha Gorman, and Helen Chavey will lead the Colby women. Eli Decker, Reeve Maddux, and Gabe Kline are some top runners for the men.
 
After a week off, the Mules will compete at the University of Maine at Augusta Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 22. Colby finishes the month of September with the Maine State Championships at Bowdoin College on Saturday, Sept. 29.
