WATERVILLE, Maine -- The Colby College women's basketball team is in the New England Small College Athletic Conference playoffs after ending the regular season with a 55-38 win over Wesleyan University on Saturday.
Colby, playing without leading scorer Haley Driscoll, received a big Senior Day performance from point guard MK Caverly (pictured) and junior center Emily Davis. Caverly had nine of Colby's 14 assists and finished with 10 points in her final home game. Davis had a game-high 17 points on 7-for-13 shooting, had five rebounds, two assists, two steals, and two blocked shots.
Kadijah Mathews came off the bench with seven points and three rebounds for Wesleyan (7-15 overall, 1-9 NESCAC). Ava Tompkins also had seven points, while Tara Berger scored six, had four rebounds, and three blocked shots. Heidi Scarth had a game-high six rebounds and four points for the Cardinals.
Colby stayed in front by double figures the entire second half. The Mules led 43-23 after a Paige Russell 3-point shot with 3:20 left in the third quarter.
Wesleyan had a 42-31 rebounding advantage, but the Mules held the Cardinals to 29.4 percent shooting from the field. Wesleyan hurts its own cause with 23 turnovers to the Mules' 13.
