STANDISH, Maine -- The Colby College women's basketball team ended the first semester of play with a 5-4 overall record after a 58-47 setback at St. Joseph's College in non-conference play Saturday.
Emily Davis (pictured) shot 6-for-9 from the field on the way to a team-high 13 points and four rebounds for the Mules. Katie McCrum added nine points, a team-high nine rebounds, and five assists. Haley Driscoll contributed eight points and eight rebounds.
Ainsley Burns had all six of her points in the opening quarter to help Colby take a 16-14 lead after 10 minutes. The two teams combined for just nine points in the second quarter, with the Monks taking a 23-21 lead at intermission.
Trailing 48-40 in the fourth quarter, Colby scored five straight points to narrow the lead to 48-45 with 6:20 remaining. Benway answered with a basket to push the lead to 50-45, but Colby cut the lead to 50-47 on McCrum's jumper with 5:41 remaining. Unfortunately for the Mules, the points were the final of the game. The Monks scored the final eight points.
