Women's hockey drops game

WATERVILLE, Maine -- Hannah Insuik stopped 27 shots for the Colby College women's hockey team in a 3-0 loss to Hamilton College on Saturday in NESCAC play at Alfond Rink.

The Continentals improved to 3-2 overall and 3-1 in the conference, while the Mules dropped to 0-5-1 and 0-3-1 in league play.

In Friday's 3-0 win, Hamilton scored three goals in the opening period. The Continentals nearly went the first 20 minutes without a goal Saturday.

Michaela Giuttari scored her first collegiate goal on a terrific individual effort with just 4.4 seconds left in the first period. Giuttari came from behind Hamilton's net and quickly picked up speed. She skated between two Colby players near center ice, and then split a pair of defenders inside the blue line. Giuttari was able to get around Colby goalie Hannah Insuik and stuff the puck in the cage.

Katie Parkman scored her second of the season at 8:38 of the second period. She stole a puck from a Colby defender behind the Mule net and came in front and ended up on her knees as she took the shot.

In a four-on-four situation in the third period, Hamilton caught Colby with too many players forward. Andrea Rockey came up the right side and ended up with a two-on-one with Caroline Knop, who took the pass and went to her backhand for a high shot.

Sam Walther stopped 26 shots for her second shutout of the weekend for Hamilton. Insuik had 27 saves for the Mules.
