Moore, Pirie lead offensive effort in close loss to Williams

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- In a game charaterized by streaky play from both teams, Colby women's lacrosse started off quickly against Williams but eventually fell 15-12.

The Mules scored the first goal of the game when Robyn Pirie capitalized on a feed from Bridget Horwood, but the Ephs scored the next six goals. Colby answered when Pirie netted another goal, assisted by Grace Crowell. The goal started a run of scoring for the Mules, who recorded four of the next six in the half. Taylor Moore scored twice, Emma Banks scored on a free position shot, and Horwood would bring the score to 8-6 when she finished on a pass from Banks.

Pirie again opened the scoring in the second half off of a feed from Horwood, and then answered a Williams goal with her fourth of the game, this time assisted by Chiamaka Ubani. This would be as close as the Mules would come, however, as Williams scored five of the next six goals. Grace Langmuir scored for Colby during this run, and then the Mules scored the last three goals of the game. Taylor Moore netted two, once assisted by Horwood, and Langmuir would add the last goal for the Mules off of a feed Pirie. The late flurry of goals was not enough, however, and the Mules fell to the Ephs 15-12. First year goalie Emily Podgorni recorded 15 saves and had thee groundballs in the loss.

Colby next takes the field at Trinity College on Saturday at 12:00 PM (EST).
