Women's soccer team drops overtime game in season finale

WATERVILLE, Maine --- Colby College's Aliza Van Leesten (New Haven, Conn.) scored a goal in her final collegiate game, but Bates College scored with just 3:43 left in the second overtime for a 2-1 win over the Mules in NESCAC women's soccer Tuesday.

Bates College senior Hannah Graves (Weston, Mass.) scored the overtime goal.

Bates finished the season at 5-9-1 overall and 1-8-1 in the conference, while the Mules ended the year at 6-9 overall and 1-9 in the league.

Olivia Amdur (Chicago, Ill.), who had an assist on the first Bates goal, ripped a shot from about 25 yards out that hit the crossbar. Torri Pelletier (Topsham, Maine) tracked down the ball and quickly fed a pass to Graves, who was running into the box and hit a low shot to the left corner for the winner.

The Bobcats, who had a 24-11 shot advantage, scored at 29:54 of the first half when Amdur crossed the ball from the left side to the center for Hannah Behringer (Old Lyme, Conn.) for the score. Behringer scored her fourth of the season.

Colby tied the game at 1-1 on the fourth of the year for Van Leesten (pictured). Nora Mabie (Winnetka, Ill.) won a ball on the left side of the field and pushed it to Van Leesten, who dribbled about 20 yards and lifted a shot from the corner of the 18-yard line on the left side to the far right corner of the goal at 40:07.

While Bates had the decided shot advantage, Colby had more shots on goal. Bobcat goalkeeper Sarah McCarthy (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) made seven saves on the Mules' 11 shots. Colby goalkeeper Sam Rizzo (Swampscott, Mass.) made five stops, including two in overtime.

Amdur, with a big left-footed shot, led the Bobcats with eight shots. Van Leesten had seven of Colby's shots.
