Arnold's goal lifts women's soccer to overtime win


BANGOR, Maine — Laura Arnold scored with 1:45 remaining in overtime and head coach Kristin Shaw earned her first head coaching win at Colby College in a 1-0 victory over Husson University on Sunday.

The Mules (1-1 overall) have not given up a goal during action in the field of play. Colby fell 1-0 to Tufts University on Saturday, but the goal was scored on a penalty kick.
Shaw, who was a head coach at Smith College, and the Mules had a 17-10 shot advantage and a 9-4 edge in corner kicks.
Arnold led all Colby players with four shots, none bigger than the score in the second overtime session.
Sam Rizzo made seven saves to earn the shutout. She has not given up a goal in the opening two games. Kayla Gordon stopped eight shots for Husson (1-3).
The Mules will play host to Thomas College on Wednesday at 8 p.m. at Harold Alfond Stadium in the first-ever women’s soccer night home game at Colby.
