Relay team makes final, finishes seventh

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. — The Colby College 400-yard medley relay team of Katherine King, Shauna Yuan, Katie Discipio, and Katie Southworth made the championship final at the NESCAC Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships at Middlebury College on Friday.

King, Yuan, Discipio, and Southworth finished in seventh place with a time of 3:59.24. The four women had a preliminary time of 4:00.81 in morning racing. The Mules picked up 46 points for the relay placing.
Discipio also placed 15th in the 50 butterfly (26.72, 26.49 prelim), while diver Alicia Elliott took 15th place with 263.45 points in 1-meter competition.
Colby’s 200 freestyle relay team of Southworth, King, Catherine Cimini, and captain Morganne Hodsdon were 10th in 1:40.38.
Yuan placed 18th in the 50 breaststroke (31.49, 31.46 prelim), King finished 21st in the 50 backstroke (28.11), Southworth was 21st with a 24.85 in the 50 freestyle, Hodsdon was 22nd in the 500 freestyle (5:12.97), while Cimini took 23rd in the 50 fly (26.86 prelim) and 23rd in the 50 freestyle (25.07).
The Mules had 150 points after the first day of competition and are in 10th place. Competition starts at 10 a.m. Saturday.
