Mules' Hanssen has 14 more kills in NESCAC opener

WATERVILLE, Maine -- Paige Hanssen, who had a school-record 24 kills in a four-set match at University of New England on Tuesday, had 14 kills for Colby College in a 3-0 setback to Bowdoin College in NESCAC volleyball Friday night.
 
Colby's Nicole Petherbridge added seven kills on a .417 attack percentage, while Elizabeth Middlebrook had six kills. Molly Manuel finished with 25 assists, while Erin Maidman had 11 digs.

Ashley Williams had 11 kills and hit .474 on the night for Bowdoin, which won by sets scores of 25-18, 25-18, 25-16. 
 
The Polar Bears (7-0 overall, 1-0 NESCAC) play at Bates College on Saturday at 2 p.m. The Mules (2-4, 0-1) entertain Tufts University at 1 p.m. The Jumbos took a 3-0 win over Bates on Friday.
 
Sophia Pahl hit .500, did not make an attack error, and had seven kills for the Polar Bears. Kate Kiser finished with 35 assists, two kills, two service aces, and two blocks. 
 
The Mules only trailed 17-14 in the opening set, but Bowdoin pulled away with eight of the final 12 points. The Polar Bears hit .452 in the second set, though Colby stayed in the set and only trailed 21-17 at one point. The Mules had an early 4-2 lead and trailed just 12-10 in the third set before Bowdoin took control.
