Lawlor 12th for women's cross country at NESCAC meet

WATERVILLE, Maine -- Caitlin Lawlor finished in 12th place for the Colby College women's cross country team at the Quarry Road Trails on Saturday at the New England Small College Athletic Conference Championships.

Lawlor had a time of 23 minutes, 20.06 seconds over the 6-kilometer course. Lawlor will earn All-NESCAC Second Team honors when the teams are officially announced by the NESCAC next week. Lawlor and the field of 129 finishers had to run in a steady rain after the men's championship race barely had a drizzle less than an hour earlier.

Hannah Springhorn (pictured) placed 26th for the Mules with a 23:51.49 clocking. She helped the Mules place ninth in the meet with a score of 223. 

Mahal Alvarez-Backus led a pack of Mules by finishing in 78th place in 25:20.43. Elizabeth Holland was right behind in 79th (25:21.91), Brit Biddle finished 82nd with a 25:26.08, and Amy LoTemplio took 83rd in 25:29.88.

Sonia Tremblay (93rd, 25:47.82), Helen Chavey (97th, 25:56.89), MJ Kievman (102nd, 26:04.66), Lydia Fanning (105th, 26:14.81), Margo Buys (116th, 26:41.66), and Taylor Kennedy (129th, 28:21.18) were other Colby finishers.

Williams won its second straight league title and a fourth in the last six years with a score of 47. 

Middlebury College's Abigail Nadler won the women's race in 22:33.77 and Natalie Bettez took second in 22:52.53.
