Lawlor named to All-NESCAC First Team after strong finish at meet

WATERVILLE, Maine -- A year after making the second team on her home course, Colby College senior Cait Lawlor (Concord, Mass.) made the New England Small College Athletic Conference Women's Cross Country First Team on Tuesday.

Lawlor placed third overall by finishing the 6-kilometer race in 22 minutes, 2.9 seconds in a field of 144 finishers. A Providence College transfer, Lawlor finished in 12th place last year when Colby hosted the league championship at the Quarry Road Trails. She got much faster in her three seasons after taking 42nd at the conference meet as a sophomore.

Lawlor is preparing for the New England Division III Championships at University of Southern Maine on Saturday, Nov. 11. She will try to qualify for the NCAA Division III Championships in Elsah, Ill.

In last year's regional meet, Lawlor earned All-New England honors after taking 17th place. She finished 91st at the NCAA meet.

The top seven runners at the NESCAC meet make the first team, while finishers eight to 14 are on the second team.
