Gorman named Most Outstanding Performer, All-NESCAC with Chavey

WATERVILLE, Maine -- Colby College sophomore Sophia Gorman (Charlotte, Vt.) was named the New England Small College Athletic Conference Most Outstanding Performer and earned All-NESCAC honors along with teammate Helen Chavey after the league officially announced the teams Tuesday.

Gorman, who was on the first team, earned the top honor after winning the individual title at the conference meet Saturday at Boston's Franklin Park. She beat the field by nearly 14 seconds (21:54.8) in the rain and with tough conditions to run.

The Most Outstanding Performer honor is equivalent to NESCAC Player of the Year in other league sports.

Chavey (West Hartford, Conn.) placed 13th with a time of 23:07.3. The top seven in the race made the first team, while the next seven runners were on the second team.

Gorman and Chavey (pictured) will both compete at the New England Division III Championships/NCAA Qualifier on Saturday, Nov. 10, at Bowdoin College. The NCAA meet is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 17, in Oshkosh, Wis.
