Waterville, Maine - Friday night of Homecoming Weekend marked the 116th C Club Dinner for Colby College. Special honors went to Mark Jackson '95 as the Carl Nelson Sports Achievement Award winner, and Alexander "Sandy" Buck Jr. '78 as the C Club Person of the Year.
Sandy Buck's name is synonymous with environmental education at Colby, and the College celebrated his loyalty, generosity, and leadership as a supporter of Colby excellence. His commitment touches all athletic teams, especially lacrosse where he was a co-captain. As a steadfast friend and trustee, he has exemplified Colby's values for more than 40 years with good-natured collaboration, compassionate philanthropy, and exceptional sportsmanship. He encourages all around him to move forward and dares them to become better.
Jackson (photo below) was recognized for the excellence he has achieved in his remarkable and still relatively short career. Since his years as a defensive back and Government major at Colby, he has been a coaching assistant in the NFL and has risen to Director of Athletics at Villanova University. He has mastered the complexity of running an elite collegiate athletic program and has savored two national championships and more than 20 conference championships. Equally important, his commitment to a holistic student-athlete experience has drawn accolades, including the Big East Presidents' Award in 2018.
Colby Athletics are active Saturday October 5th for Homecoming contests throughout the day. Come out and support your Mules.
