Derwin, Schoepke both take seconds in FIS giant slalom racing

NEWRY, Maine -- Colbey Derwin finished second in FIS giant slalom racing at Sugarloaf for the Colby men's alpine ski team and Sandy Schoepke placed second for the women at Sunday River on Wednesday.
 
Derwin had times of 1:00.21 and 56.77 for a two-run total time of 1:56.98. Colby teammate Chauncey Morgan took fifth place in 1:57.80 with runs of 1:01.12 and 56.68.
 
In racing Tuesday, Derwin placed fourth in 2:02.92 with times of 1:01.94 and 1:00.98. Matt Wilson finished fifth in 2:03.38 (1:02.03, 1:01.35), while Marc Hartnett took 12th with a 2:04.82 (1:02.28, 1:02.54).
 
In Wednesday's racing at Sunday River, Schoepke (pictured) was runner-up with runs of 1:11.47 and 1:10.36 for a 2:21.83 total. Lily Hogan took third place with a 2:22.38 on trips of 1:11.65 and 1:10.73. Rylee McCormack placed 11th in 2:24.22 (1:13.07, 1:11.15).
