BANGOR, Maine — Two weeks after Colby College took a 5-4 home win over Husson University, the Eagles paid the Mules back with a 5-4 non-conference win Tuesday at the Winkin Complex.
Colby is 11-21 overall and will play host to University of Maine on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
Andrew Currier had two of Colby’s six hits and drove in three runs. He nearly had another hit and an RBI in the eighth inning, but his line drive was caught on a dive by the Husson right fielder.
Benjamin Crocker also had two hits for the Mules. Tommy Forese had a hit and an RBI, while Noah Tocci had the other hit for Colby.
The Mules allowed 13 hits and three walks in the game. However, Colby’s pitching stranded nine runners and kept the game close.
Cam Archer had two hits and two RBI for the Eagles (21-19). Julien Boone finished with a pair of hits, one run, and an RBI.
After falling behind 3-0 after three innings, Colby got a break when starter Conor Maguire was taken out to start the fourth. With just one out, Colby’s Zach Ellenthal, Soren Hanson, and Matt Garcia had consecutive walks to load the bases. Currier followed with a single to right field to bring in Ellenthal and Hanson. Forese singled to left field to tie the game on Garcia’s run. Husson, though, made another pitching change and got out of the inning.
The Eagles went ahead 4-3 after four innings with a lone run. The Mules tied it again at 4-4 with a run in the top of the sixth. Garcia reached on a fielder’s choice, stole second base, and scored on Currier’s single up the middle.
Husson again answered in the bottom of the inning with what turned out to be the game-winning run. Sam Huston had a one-out single and took third on a double by Christian Cornell. The Mules got the second out of the inning when third baseman Zach Ellenthal threw Huston out at the plate on a fielder’s choice. Alex Chapman moved to second base on a wild pitch and scored on Archer’s single to center field.
