Baseball closes out season with two setbacks to Plymouth State

WATERVILLE, Maine -- Despite some solid pitching from Colby College's Paul Ariola and Will Cohen in the opener, Plymouth State pitching held the Mules to one run in each game in 2-1 and 7-1 non-conference baseball victories on Monday at Coombs Field.

Game 1 highlights
* Plymouth State scored lone runs in the first and third innings, while the Mules cut the lead in half with a single run in the sixth inning.
* Dallas DeFrancesco pitched a complete game for the Panthers. He allowed eight hits, struck out two, and walked none in seven innings.
* Paul Ariola and Will Cohen both pitched well for the Mules. Ariola allowed two earned runs over five innings and had seven strikeouts. Cohen worked the final two innings without giving up a hit or a walk.
* Jimmy Zimolka scored both runs and had one hit for the Panthers. Andrew Wasilefsky had a sacrifice fly to left field to bring in Zimolka in the first inning. Josh Goulet added a sacrifice fly to right center in the third to once again bring in Zimolka.
* Will Phillips doubled to right field to begin the sixth inning and scored on a one out single to right center by William Wessman. Phillips, Jack Mangold, and Ben Coleman all had two hits for Colby.
Game 2 highlights
* JP Somers worked six innings, allowed one earned run, and struck out two to earn the victory in the seven inning contest.
* Wasilefsky had two doubles, scored, and drove in a run. Chris Mansour added a hit and two RBI, while Nate Frederick scored twice and had one hit. Cam Ruziak tripled and scored.
* Colby's Matt Treveloni had two hits to finish the season with a .376 batting average and no errors in 47 chances in the outfield. Wessman doubled and drove in a run, while Chris Romano went 1-for-2. 
* Mansour had a two-run single in the first inning and the Panthers took advantage of two Colby errors. 
* Wessman doubled to bring in Phillips in the bottom of the first inning.
* Zimolka's sacrifice fly in the second inning plated Ruziak. Luke Mancini added a two-run single in the third to bring in Wasilefsky and Frederick.
