Field hockey falls in opener to second-ranked Jumbos

MEDFORD, Mass. -- Colby College goalkeeper Riley Whitmyer stopped eight shots, but second-ranked Tufts University took a 3-0 season-opening win on Saturday.

Game highlights
* Despite falling behind 2-0 at halftime, the Mules did have some offense. Colby had seven shots and five penalty corners in the opening 35 minutes.
* Newcomers had eight of the Mules' nine shots in the game. Georgia Cassidy (3 shots), Delaney Keithley (3 shots), Merel van Gijzen, and Myri Skodock all were playing their first games for the Mules.
* Mary Travers scored the eventual game-winning goal for the Jumbos at 17:16 of the first half. She then assisted on Gigi Tutoni's score at 27:14.
Up next for Colby
* The Mules play at Thomas College on Wednesday at 8 p.m. Colby has its home opener on the new Bill Alfond Field next Saturday against Williams College at 11 a.m.
