Waterville, Maine - The Colby College Field Hockey team rises in the ranks after two hard fought road contests this past weekend against #3 Tufts University and Wesleyan University.
Colby entered last week ranked in the top 20 of the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) coaches poll. The ranking marked the first time since 2003 that the program elevated to the list. It also gave the Mules a target on their backs as they went on the road for back to back conference contests in hopes of maintaining their position or rising even higher.
The first game of the weekend saw Colby up against #3 ranked Tufts, and the battle went down to the final moments. Tied at 2-2, the home team scored with 19 seconds remaining to deliver the Mules their first loss of the season. Day two saw Colby take a 0-0 game into overtime in Middletown, Conn. when leading scorer Georgia Cassidy netted an overtime goal, sending the Mules back to Mayflower Hill with a split for the road trip.
Colby is back in action this weekend for games against Hamilton College (Saturday) and Utica College (Sunday).
