Field Hockey turns the table, scores early for road win

Utica, N.Y. - The Colby College Field Hockey team topped the Pioneers of Utica College 3-0 in non-conference play.  Colby advances to 6-1 and looks to maintain or better their national ranking.

After watching other teams come out to fast starts in recent contests, Colby decided to turn the tables and see how it suits them.  The conclusion, its much easier to win when you jump out early and don't look back.  The duo of Eliza Mell and Georgia Cassidy got it all started. Each senior captain netted their own unassisted goal early in the game. Mell struck the initial (4:06), her fourth of the season. Cassidy scored the next, her sixth (6:37) and the Mules played with a cushion. First year Hwida Nawass scored her first of the season in the third quarter, and Colby cruised to their sixth victory.  The only blemish on the record came last weekend on the road at #5 Tufts University.

Colby out-shot Utica on the day 33-10, and goal keeper Emily Buckman turned away eight (on goal) to earn the shutout in goal.

The Mules next play back in Waterville for Homecoming weekend on Saturday when they host the Ephs from Williams College.
