Griffith finishes in second place at Maine golf championship

BANGOR, Maine -- Colby College's Jack Griffith placed second overall after leading the first round at the Maine Intercollegiate Golf Championship at the Bangor Municipal Golf Course on Sunday.

Griffith shot a 2-under-par 69 to take the opening round lead Saturday. He closed with a 74 on Sunday for a two-day total of 143. Husson University's Gavin Dugas won medalist honors with a 71 on the opening day and then a 4-under-par 67 on Sunday for a 138 total.
Griffith's 143 total was two strokes better than the three players tied with 145.
The Mules placed fourth out of 10 teams with a 610 total. Colby was just one stroke out of third place.
Elliot Snow finished in a tie for 25th place with rounds of 78 and 77 for a 155 total. Michael Broucek had an 80 and a 78 for a 157 finish. Sam Funderburg tied Griffith with a 74 on Sunday after shooting an 85 on Saturday. Evan Burstein closed with a 79 on Sunday after an 81 in the opening round.
