WATERVILLE, Maine -- Colby College's Sam Jefferson (Newton, Mass.), one of the top players in the New England Small College Athletic Conference, was named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District 1 Basketball Team on Thursday.
District 1 is made up of colleges in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine. Jefferson is now eligible for National Academic All-American honors selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Jefferson is first in the NESCAC in made 3-point shots (88), first in made 3-point shots per game (3.5), fourth in scoring (18.2), fourth in 3-point field goal percentage (42.5), sixth in minutes played (31.8), and 10th in free throw percentage (80.0).
With his senior year ahead next season, Jefferson has 1,009 career points, 207 made 3-point field goals, 290 rebounds, 128 assists, 53 steals, and 34 blocked shots. He became the 39th player in Colby men's basketball history to reach 1,000 career points.
Jefferson, who is an economics major and has a minor in Chinese, is a research assistant for professor Adam Howard in the Colby Education Department. The last two summers he has been part of research groups in Taiwan for Howard.
During the summer of 2018, Jefferson was a research assistant in the Brandeis University Economics Department. He also worked with the EOP Group as an economic analyst.
