WATERVILLE, Maine -- Colby College first-year Noah Tyson (Rutland, Vt.), who averaged a double-double in scoring and rebounding in three games, was named the Maine Men's Basketball coaches and Writers Association (MMBCWA) Rookie of the Week on Monday.
Tyson averaged 15.3 points, 11.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and shot 41.4 percent from 3-point range. He had eight of Colby's 21 rebounds (38 percent) in the second half to help turn a 3-point halftime deficit into a 17-point win over Bates.
In a win over Maine-Farmington, Tyson had 12 defensive rebounds, shot 66.7 percent from the field, and 57.1 from long range. In a close loss to Gordon, Tyson had 18 points, 12 rebounds (5 offensive), five assists, and three steals.
Tyson has committed just five turnovers in 10 games and is third in the NESCAC in assist/turnover ratio (5.2). He also ranks sixth in the conference in minutes played (30.6), seventh in defensive rebounds (6.3), eighth in rebounding (8.6), and 10th in offensive rebounding (2.3).
Colby is 8-2 overall and will play at home against Tufts University at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4.
