NESCAC champion men's hockey to start season ranked 11th

WATERVILLE, Maine -- Colby College, the defending New England Small College Athletic Conference champions and an NCAA Frozen Four participant, will start the 2018-19 season ranked 11th in the United States College Hockey Online Division III poll.

The Mules (17-11-2 overall) won the NESCAC title last year by beating Trinity College in the championship game. The Bantams are the only other team in the poll, two spots ahead of the Mules at ninth. Colby also beat Wesleyan University and Amherst College on the way to the conference title.

Colby, under head coach Blaise MacDonald, went on to beat University of New England and Geneseo in the NCAA tourney before falling to St. Norbert College in a national semifinal. St. Norbert starts the season ranked first, Geneseo is fifth, and UNE is eighth ranked.

The Mules lost some talented players to graduation, but do return three of the top five scorers from last year. Colby co-captains Nick O'Connor and Thomas Stahlhuth will lead the team.
