BRUNSWICK, Maine- On the second day of the Colby-Bowdoin Classic the Colby College Men's Ice Hockey team beat Albertus Magnus College by the score 6-3.
Just thirty seconds into the first period Justin Grillo drilled the puck into the net off of a Micheal Morrisey touch. The Mules then capitalized on their first power play when captain Brendan Murphy scored at 4:14. The defensive pairing of Jake Rasch and Billy Overby got the assists on the score. At the end of the period the shots were in favor of the Falcons 10-8.
Entering the second period Albertus Magnus evened the score with two quick goals. The first was a power play goal scored by Cameron Weitzman at the 2:11 mark. The second goal came 58 seconds later when Owen Allan rocketed the puck into the net. Now with their lead erased, Carter Breitenfeldt (photo inset) started his hat trick night at 6:01. Velan Nandhakumaran (headline photo) and J.P. Schuhlen had the assists of the first goal. Albertus Magnus drew the penalty but Breitenfeldt took the puck into the offensive zone himself and increased the lead at 10:20. The penalty kill unit for the Mules scored again, this time from Grillo at 16:47 off a Alex Bourhas assist.
Starting the third period Breitenfeldt sealed the win with his third goal at 0:52. Mark Leprine gave the assist to the first year. The Falcons at 7:40 scored on the shot of Joseph Onorato to make the final score 6-3.
Andrew Tucci finished with 24 saves in net for Colby as Pierce Diamond finished with 22 for the Falcons. The Mules move to 3-3 on the season and are set to play at home this Friday against Tufts University. Start time is 7:00pm.
